Session One: Latin 1 Review
In this session, we will be reviewing the major grammatical topics covered in chapters 1-16 of Wheelock’s Latin as well as reviewing the most frequently encountered vocabulary in those chapters. This course is a great opportunity to fill in any gaps that remain from Latin 1 and to ensure that you are prepared for Latin 2 in the fall.
Topics Covered:
1st-4th conjugation verbs in the active voice for all six tenses, 1st-3rd declension nouns, 1st-3rd declension adjectives, pronouns, uses of the ablative case, high-frequency vocabulary, and strategies for improving translation skills.
Session Two: Latin 2 Review
In this session we will be reviewing the major grammatical topics covered in chapters 17-32 of Wheelock’s Latin as well as reviewing the most frequently encountered vocabulary in those chapters. Students planning to advance to Latin 3 are encouraged to take this course in order to brush up on the basics taught in Latin 1 & 2.
Topics Covered:
The relative pronoun, 1st-4th conjugation verbs in the active voice for all six tenses, 4th & 5th declension nouns, review of ablative uses, participles, infinitives, indirect statements, comparison of adjectives & adverbs, the subjunctive mood of verbs, uses of the subjunctive, formation of adverbs, conjugation of irregular verbs, and strategies for translating sentences of increasing complexity.
